TARELL ALVIN McCRANEY

One film we all find ourselves circling back to rewatch is Moonlight. Tarell Alvin McCraney is one of the film’s brilliant co-writers who won an Oscar for Best Adaptive Screenplay in 2017. As a well-accomplished playwright, screenwriter and producer, McCraney’s known for his commitment to excellence in telling Black stories. In between his Broadway play Choir Boy and his OWN series David Makes Man, McCraney also ushered in the next generation of talent when he was the chair for the playwriting program at Yale’s School of Drama. This year, McCraney was appointed as the artistic director of Geffen Playhouse, a prominent nonprofit theater in Los Angeles. —G.E.
